Pramac GmbH: Sustainable Energy Supply for Pilot Project in the Grocery Retail Sector – Storage Solution Supports Solid Wood Stores in Creußen
Intelligent energy solution for climate-friendly local supply
With the new Netto Marken-Discount and the Markgrafen beverage store in Creußen (Bayreuth district), a pioneering pilot project in the German grocery retail sector has been launched. Both stores were built entirely in solid wood construction and rely on a combination of photovoltaics, battery storage, and heat pumps for energy management.
Pramac, in cooperation with its partners Walter Solar and TBM, supplied the Pramac BSI 50/109 battery energy storage system (50 kVA / 109 kWh) – the core of the site’s energy infrastructure.
Optimized self-consumption and high autonomy rate
In combination with the PV system, the battery storage ensures optimized self-consumption and an autonomy rate of approximately 74%. Surplus energy is first fed into the storage system and then used as needed or fed back into the grid.
The result: maximum efficiency, CO₂ reduction, and a significant relief of the grid infrastructure.
Fire protection solution as a technical highlight
A special challenge of the project was integrating modern energy technology with wooden construction. Thanks to the particularly safe Pramac battery cells with UL-9540A module-level certification and a TÜV report, indoor fire protection measures could be minimized.
“For us, this was a real highlight in the project,” says Wolfgang Walter, Managing Director of Walter Solar. “Combining timber construction with state-of-the-art battery technology is challenging – but thanks to Pramac’s safety standards, we were able to implement a solution that delivers maximum efficiency and safety.”
Sustainability thought through holistically
The use of the Pramac storage system is a central component of Ratisbona’s comprehensive sustainability concept. The combination of photovoltaics, storage, and heat pumps enables an almost self-sufficient energy supply – another step towards a climate-neutral retail property.
“A pilot project like this is always a highlight because it demonstrates what is possible,” explain Matthias and Tobias Beck, Managing Directors of TBM. “Here it becomes visible: built ecologically, operated sustainably – and we are proud that our technology can contribute to this. It’s simply impressive.”
Strong partnership for the future
“We are proud to have once again been chosen as supplier and development partner for this ‘supermarket of the future’,“ says Thomas Lächner, Director Sales Stationary C&I BESS at Pramac GmbH. “We look forward to many more joint projects.“
The close collaboration between Netto, Ratisbona Handelsgesellschaften, Walter Solar, TBM, and Pramac demonstrates how sustainable energy solutions can be successfully implemented in practice.
“Energy infrastructure is a key component of our projects,” emphasizes Thomas Weszka, Head of Planning at Ratisbona Handelsimmobilien. “Photovoltaics and storage have become a standard for us – and with partners like Walter Solar and Pramac, we know we can rely on innovation and reliability.”
Powering a smarter world
The Creußen project serves as an example of the successful integration of ecological construction, technical innovation, and collaborative implementation. It demonstrates how the grocery retail sector can actively contribute to CO₂ reduction through intelligent energy solutions – and how sustainable partnerships accelerate the transition to a greener energy future.
